Artist: Luiz Romano
Medium: Art Glass: Etched/Carved and Kiln-formed
Architect and Industrial Designer
Luiz Romano was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1948 and worked in many architectural projects until 1992 when he moved to Miami, Fl – USA.

Starting in 1998 as a hobby, Luiz Romano began to work with traditional stained glass.
In 2001 Romano attended his first fused glass class what confirmed his passion for the art glass.
Experimenting with various forms of glass work has led to his current style, which is a combination of etched/carved designs and kiln-formed glass. Flame worked inclusions are sometimes used within a piece.

Romano works alone fusing glass and each individual piece is his creation. The kiln-formed pieces are first cut, ground, and then the design elements are carved using either a sand-carve process or engraving tool.
Once the initial design is complete, the various layers of glass are laid out in the kiln and fused into a single piece; another firing or two follow the process to give the piece its final shape. The piece is then given a final grinding and polishing, as needed, many of the limited series and one-of-a-kinds have beveled and polished rims.
The etched/carved line of glass is produced by a sand carving process and is permanently etched into the piece.
He also shares with his wife Cristina Romano the final treatment of each piece adding a touch of simplicity and elegance.
Both working from their Alpharetta, GA studio are inspired from all of the natural beauty around the world.
